Learn about the Faculty & Staff Development Fund.

Jaguar

The Faculty and Staff Development Fund is specifically designed to support the needs of faculty and staff.

Year-round faculty and staff request support from the Foundation for special initiatives and projects, travel, and professional development that departmental budgets can not accommodate.

The Fund provides resources to supplement diminishing departmental budgets, support faculty and staff research initiatives, travel to conferences and workshops, and provide support staff with opportunities to attain skill enhancement and training.

Our goal is to assist the University and each department in strengthening its capacity and daily operations in an effort to advance the overall mission of Southern University.

For example, Faculty and Staff Development Fund will allow faculty to travel to present scholarly papers and other works or allow clerical staff to attain additional administrative skills training that will improve efficiency and increase productivity university-wide.

Also, our goal is to increase faculty and staff giving as external partners request faculty and staff participation rates when considering making a gift to the University.

How it Works

A fundraising campaign will operate throughout the Fall semester. This campaign will solicit contributions from faculty and staff from all three Baton Rouge campuses.

The funds raised will be fiscally managed by the Foundation, where the standard administrative fee will be waived, and overseen by the Faculty and Staff Development Fund Committee.

Faculty and staff will be able to submit proposals for funding and the Committee will review all proposals and select the most compelling for funding.

Every member of the Committee has made a gift to this fund, and we are asking that you do the same.

The Committee

The Faculty and Staff Development Fund Committee is comprised of faculty and staff representatives from SUBR, SU Law Center, and SU Ag Center.

The Committee has worked collaboratively with Foundation staff to design and coordinate the implementation of the Fund to be most beneficial to both faculty and staff equally.

You may be thinking, “I already give my time and talents to Southern, isn’t that enough?”

We’re not suggesting, in any way, that you don’t already give enough to Southern through your daily service.

Participation in this fund is viewed as going above and beyond the work you already put in.

This is an opportunity to make a financial investment in areas you have already invested in personally.

How can I make a gift?

Payroll deduction

By having a small amount deducted from your earnings each pay period, you guarantee the success of this initiative.

For bi-monthly paid employees, a gift of $2.50/pay period adds up to a $25 gift (August-December); a gift of $5.00/pay period adds up to $50 a year.  For monthly paid employees, a gift of $5.00/pay period adds up to a $50 gift and so on.

Outright Gift

You can also make an outright gift via check (made payable to the SU System Foundation) or credit card. The SU System Foundation accepts VISA and Mastercard.
