TAQUINCY ALEXANDER

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Jeanerette native Taquincy Alexander is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering at Southern University, Baton Rouge. Taquincy was valedictorian of Jeanerette High School in Iberia Parish and recipient of the Southern University Honors College Scholarship and the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students Performance Award. He is a member of the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Council, Southern Regional Honors Council, Student Government Association, Men’s Federation, National Society of Black Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Alexander earned a scholarship from BASF in the company’s effort to support science, technology, engineering, and math education and careers. Recipients demonstrated academic success as engineering majors and are active in campus organizations.

“This honor motivates me to be the best student that I can be,” said Alexander.

“By awarding scholarships to our students, BASF is acknowledging their hard work and encouraging them to continue aiming for academic excellence,” said Dr. Habib Mohamadian, Southern University’ College of Engineering dean.
