SU Computer Science Mission Statement “to produce quality graduates who are capable of entering into careers in Computer Science possessing fundamental knowledge and experiences necessary to support efforts of upward mobility. Our educational programs prepare our students to be competitive in graduate work and contribute to society.”
For nearly 30 years, Dr. Leroy C. Roquemore was one of the most beloved and respected chairpersons’ at Southern University A&M (SU) and an educator who firmly believed in giving his students experience outside the classroom. Dr. Roquemore contributions to SU’s Computer Science program and the computing technology industry are being honored and continued through the establishment of an endowment fund.
The endowment pays tribute to Dr. Roquemore accomplishments and allows today’s students and professors to carry on Dr. Roquemore’s legacy. Dr. Roquemore chaired the Department of Computer Science at SU from 1965 until his retirement in 1992.
His lasting influence was his approach to teaching and his theory that students must complement their classroom education with experience and leadership in the industry. The legacy of his success is seen in his former students, many of whom are now business leaders and educators in computing technology throughout the world.
The Dr. Leroy C. Roquemore Endowment Fund has been established through its association with the Southern University Foundation to provide awards to graduating high school seniors or graduate students with overall grade point averages of 3.6 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and will be used to help support computer science infrastructure materials and/or equipment to assure that the computer labs and classroom instructional tools are updated. Your contributions can be made online or by mail.
