In memory of Inez Pierce Haydel, a dedicated educator, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, the Inez Pierce Haydel Scholarship Fund has been established to honor her legacy. Inez believed deeply in the power of education, the importance of community, and the joy of lifelong learning. She was passionate about nurturing minds and encouraging young people to reach their fullest potential.
Born in Plaquemine, Louisiana, on February 17, 1923, Inez was an exceptional student and a lifelong advocate for education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and went on to complete further studies at Louisiana State University, the University of California Los Angeles, and Pepperdine University. As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Inez lived by the values of excellence, service, and leadership.
Inez’s teaching career spanned over three decades, beginning in Baton Rouge and continuing in Los Angeles. She taught sixth grade for twelve years and was known for her innovative, creative teaching methods. Her work within the Los Angeles Unified School District was celebrated, and she earned numerous awards for her contributions to her students and the school community. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she was a dedicated member of St. Bernadette Church and involved in various charitable activities.
Inez was a woman of grace, beauty, and hospitality. She enjoyed a well-lived life filled with music, art, and a deep love for her family. Her passion for gardening, her impeccable taste in home decor, and her love of cooking, particularly her famous gumbo and pound cake, will forever remain cherished memories for those who knew her.
