Nourishment, Essentials, and Support to help students Thrive

Southern University and A&M College (Baton Rouge, LA) is located in Scotlandville, one of East Baton Rouge Parish’s largest food deserts. Limited access to full-service grocery stores and fresh, affordable food creates significant barriers for students—many of whom are first-generation and face food insecurity.

What is Food Insecurity?

It’s the lack of consistent access to affordable, nutritious food needed for good health. For Southern students, this challenge is compounded by transportation issues and the absence of nearby grocery stores.

What Jaguar N.E.S.T. Provides

  • Free, healthy meals and snacks for Southern University students
  • Reduces food insecurity so students can focus on academics
  • Promotes wellness and builds a stronger campus community
