Student Outcomes: Building Futures

The “Student Outcomes” pillar of IMAGINE SOUTHERN is dedicated to enhancing academic success through transformative investments in infrastructure. With a $450 million goal, this initiative will fund the construction, renovation, and expansion of more than 10 academic buildings across Southern University’s campuses. These state-of-the-art facilities will feature modern classrooms, advanced technologies, and specialized research spaces that foster academic achievement, support increased enrollment, and prepare students for successful careers in a competitive, global economy.

Creating Collaborative Learning Environments

IMAGINE SOUTHERN is reimagining how academic spaces serve students and faculty across its campuses. This pillar focuses on bringing programs into cutting-edge facilities that promote greater collaboration and efficient resource use. For example, the renovation of T. T. Allain Hall will centralize the College of Agricultural, Human, and Environmental Sciences, providing modern classrooms, research labs, and faculty offices. Similarly, the College of Business will benefit from a new facility designed to double enrollment, offering spaces like mock-trading rooms, blockchain research centers, and student amenities that enhance experiential learning.

Modern Spaces for Growth in Healthcare, Law, and Government

Healthcare is a critical focus of this pillar, with major expansions planned for both the Southern University College of Nursing and Allied Health and the SUNO College of Nursing and Allied Health. New facilities will enable these programs to double their enrollment, addressing pressing workforce needs by preparing more nursing graduates each year. Advanced simulation labs, lecture halls, and dedicated study spaces will ensure students have the best possible preparation for their future roles as healthcare providers.

The Southern University Law Center, a historic institution for legal education, will undergo expansion to accommodate a growing student body and improve learning opportunities. By modernizing facilities and adding new student amenities, the Law Center will attract top talent and continue its legacy of excellence. Additionally, the Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Services will see infrastructure improvements, creating better learning environments for future leaders in public administration and social services.

Investing in the Future of K-12 Education

A new facility for the K-12 Lab School, located on its existing site, will provide both academic and athletic facilities, including a 15,000-square-foot athletic complex and playing fields. This investment will support the Lab School’s mission to deliver a comprehensive education, fostering academic and personal growth in students and carrying forward its tradition of excellence into the next century.

Advancing STEM, Arts, and Wellness

Projects under the “Student Outcomes” pillar span a range of disciplines, ensuring students have access to diverse, high-quality educational opportunities. The College of Sciences and Engineering will benefit from expanded, state-of-the-art labs and technology-enhanced classrooms, fostering innovation and preparing students for careers in STEM fields. The Data Science and Analytics Workforce Training Center will equip students with in-demand skills, bridging the gap between academia and industry needs.

In the arts, the College of Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies will see new and improved facilities, including digital arts studios, music and dance spaces, and a modern auditorium. These upgrades will enrich Southern University’s cultural and creative programs, offering students ample opportunities to hone their talents. Additionally, the new Health and Wellness Complex will provide a comprehensive approach to student well-being, integrating physical health, mental wellness, and recreational activities under one roof.

Building Pathways to Success

Through the “Student Outcomes” pillar, IMAGINE SOUTHERN aims to build a stronger academic foundation that empowers students, supports faculty, and engages the broader community. By investing in dynamic learning environments, Southern University is creating pathways for students to excel academically, explore new fields, and develop the skills they need to thrive beyond graduation. These projects will not only address current needs but also set a foundation for future growth, allowing Southern University to continue its mission of providing access to quality education and fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and excellence.

Together, with the support of alumni, partners, and the broader community, we can create the facilities and resources that will shape the future of Southern University and its students.
